JY&A Media, part of Jack Yan & Associates, was founded in 1987, and began with small-run periodicals on design. It also developed a stand-alone magazine for digital distribution, compatible with MS-DOS. When the World Wide Web emerged, it saw this as an opportunity to reach a global audience. It began with the online version of its customer magazine, CAP, in the early 1990s. It then developed Lucire, New Zealand’s first commercial online fashion magazine, and its longest-running online publication in the sector, in 1997. In 2003, Lucire became the first fashion industry partner of the United Nations Environment Programme. The following year, JY&A Media took the unprecedented step of taking a web magazine into a print format, and the first hard copy of Lucire emerged. In 2005, the first internationally licensed edition of Lucire appeared in print in Romania, and the company has continued with its licensing, into territories such as Thailand, Qatar, Bahrain, and Saudi Arabia. Lucire has also been published in Arabic and French.
In 2008, the company launched Autocade, an online car encyclopædia, which it also took into a print format, in 2023, in the form of a yearbook.
It has also produced other independent titles, and continues to develop more.
