Our books focus primarily on historical embroidery techniques, including historical and cultural information, step-by-step instructions with hundreds/thousands of clear diagrams, and a range of projects. Our more recent books include both left-handed and right-handed instructions.
The aim of many of our books is to record historical forms of embroidery so that the skills are not lost to the world. While museums preserve actual artefacts, our books preserve the methods and techniques to make historical embroideries. Techniques include hardanger embroidery (Norwegian whitework embroidery) smøyg (Norwegian pattern darning), Frisian whitework (from Friesland in the Netherlands), Punt 'e nù (from Teulada, Sardinia) and Guimarães embroidery (from Portugal).
We also have a range of stitch dictionaries which teach hundreds of stitches with step-by-step instructions accompanied by a clear diagram for each step. We have a comprehensive left-handed stitch dictionary for that significant part of the market that is often neglected in instructional embroidery books, and it's sister publication; a right-handed stitch dictionary. Our Hardanger stitch dictionary focuses on filling stitches and is the most comprehensive volume on this subject ever published.
