Kalamar

Kalamar Publishing was established by Olha Popovych in 2015 and has been steadily growing in the last 5 years. The brand’s mission is to create books that will help children to understand themselves and to find their place in the world.
With this mission in mind, we chose such kinds of books to focus on:
- Children’s books on developing emotional intelligence that teach better understanding of self and others;
- Books about environment;
- Interesting up-to-date encyclopedias, particularly based on infographics;
- Books that assist in social adaptation and maturing process;
- Book for the youngest readers, particularly those developing cognitive functions and fine motor skills;
- Interesting books for teenagers.
Kalamar Publishing carried out a high-profile project recreating a 17th-century book. It is a facsimile edition of “Story of the Bible: Old and New Testaments” published by Klauber Brothers. Our team did not simply re-print the antique book, but made their own contributions to it. The project director Valentyna Bochkovska reconstructed stories behind each engraving and provided commentaries to them, in English and Ukrainian. Now this collector’s edition is in high demand as a status gift.
In the 8 years Kalamar published and successfully implemented more than 50 books. Each title’s initial print run was at least 2000-3000 (sometimes 5000) copies. Thus, the number of titles convincingly demonstrates the publisher's ability to implement the book publishing process from publishing plans to successful sales. A great part of titles became bestsellers and went into 2nd and 3rd. On the other hand, the existing number of books confirms the extremely careful selection of books under forming the publishing portfolio. The publishing team is hunting for potential hits at European book fairs, which are in line with the publishing house's concept of promoting the development of thinking, growth of readers' emotional intelligence and increasing readers’ environmental awareness.
We aim to bring up a conscious and, as a result, happy new generation! We tell children about the world in creative, non-trivial ways, teach them imaginative thinking, inspire them to save our planet. We make our readers happy through better self-awareness and environmental care.
